Jeremiah 39:11-40:6; 2 Kings 25:8-21; Jeremiah 52:12-27; & 2 Chron 36:15-21
With that many passages in the blog post title, you’d think this’d be a monster entry. You’d be wrong. As is the case with a lot of these stories from the late kingdom era, the narrative is repeated in multiple places in the Bible (sometimes even in one book).
Jer 39:12 | God had promised Jeremiah that no harm would come to Him by the hands of Ned. Here, since Ned must have heard that Jeremiah had been counseling surrender, he gives protection to Jeremiah, fulfilling God’s promise.
Jer 39:18 | Ebed-melech, the Ethiopian eunuch whom we previously saw helping Jeremiah out of a cistern, gets a special shout out from God. It’s notable because he is a gentile, yet he is noted as being saved through his faith. This paves the way for Paul’s future mission of spreading the Gospel to the gentiles.
