Ezra is responsible for writing Chronicles as well as the book named after him.  The latter describes the process of the Jewish elite returning to the promised land and rebuilding God’s temple in Jerusalem.  There are two main themes that are of interest to me:

  1. God is faithful and uses people (even pagan rulers) to fulfill His promises.  Expect a couple of posts tagged ‘determinism’ coming from Ezra.
  2. When Ezra himself enters the picture in the latter half of the book, he is involved in what is essentially a racial purity campaign to redress 70 years of intermarriage and miscegenation among the people who were left behind during the exile.  What the what?!?
