John 3:1-4:45 & Luke 3:19-20
Being perfectly honest, I’ve never really understood the Nicodemus exchange in John 3. Perhaps I’m looking for too much here, but I’ve often seen it presented as a deep and profound passage of scripture, but there doesn’t seem to be much ‘there’ there. Here’s this respected Jew approaching Jesus at nighttime and being persistently obtuse about being born again.
In fairness, Jesus is being awfully cryptic, which is something He does often, quite frankly. That’s something I’ll be keeping an eye out for as we continue on.
One connection that I did appreciate this time through the passage is that everyone’s favorite memory verse, John 3:16, is actually part of this dialogue.
For God so loved the world that He gave His only son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.
