Hebrews 4:1-7 – NT

03.08.2011

Rev 21:1-4

Rev 21 is commonly considered the echo or reflection of Gen 1-2.*  Jesus has redeemed the creation that Fell from communion with God, remaking it into the new heavens and new earth that will be the dwelling place that God intended all along.

In this sense, the new heavens and new earth are not new in the sense of being completely foreign or ‘fresh-out-of-the-package.’  Nor is our future hope in some Platonic or far-off ‘paradise’.

No, the same heavens and earth that God made in Genesis and that have been the setting for this grand story are new as in made new, re-formed into perfected versions of their prior selves, united together in ways that they had not been since the Fall, making creation again the dwelling place of God.

* Or perhaps it’s the other way around…
