No Blog is an Island – 7.15.11

Belated links (with a curiously political tinge…oh, well)

  • Michael Patton explains a facet of Scripture that has always confused and interested me, the fact that the Bible does not always speak the truth.
  • Douglas Wilson has some sober words to say about the popular ‘It gets better’ campaign: absent receiving the Truth about sin, it doesn’t get better, and it’s negligence bordering on cruelty to say otherwise.
  • Hadley Arkes has interesting thoughts on the recent Supreme Court decision to strike down restrictions on violent and offensive video games.  He lays out a strong social case for the role that morality plays in legislating our neighbors’ tastes and pleasures.
  • Sarah Pulliam Bailey looks at the highs and lows of Focus on the Family, as that organization has weathered its founder’s questionable foray into politics and then his retirement.
